Come find out about a community science project aimed at tracking and conserving California's native bumble bees. We will be participating in a field survey for the California Bumble Bee Atlas!Lesley Hamamoto and Michael Kwong will teach us a bit about native bumble bees followed by a survey of the area.The survey consists of a 45-minute period spent searching for bumble bees where they are netted, chilled, and photo-documented before all individuals are released unharmed.Please note that folks will not be able to handle bees unless they are independently on the Bumble Bee Atlas permit. Cameras are highly encouraged!
Be prepared to be hiking around on uneven ground outside in the sun for about an hour and a half. Water bottles, sun protection, sturdy shoes, all that stuff... you've been outside before!
Optional potluck picnic and river dip afterward!
